Here is a manual for the beardie you are looking into buying.
If you are thinking about buying a bearded dragon and have no experience with them, you MUST read this for your dragon.
SPACE
If you are getting a small dragon (hatchling-juvenile), they should be kept in a 20 gallon tank or more, 20 being the
absolute least. Adults need much more space. A 55 gallon tank is optimal.
FOOD
For babies, they should be fed 2-3 times a day. Each time, they should be fed as many insects as they can in 10 minutes.
The rule for veggies is the 80/20 rule. 80% of their diet should be insects and 20% should be veggies and fruits. Babies
eat a lot, maybe 1000 crickets a week. A good alternative would be phoenix worms.
TANK CLEANLINESS
A baby's tank should be cleaned of fecal matter everyday. The whole tank should be emptied and cleaned about 1 time a
month.
SUBSTRATE
the easiest substrate to use would be repti-carpet. Do NOT use sand, as this can cause impaction (when the beardie's
insides are stuck and they cant poop) when swallowed and can possibly cause death. Repti-carpet is also the easiest type
of substrate to clean. All you need to do is take it out and put it in the washer.
BREEDING
If you want to breed beardies, you have to wait for the male and female to reach breeding size and sexual maturity.
They usually reach that somewhere at the age of 18 months. And the official breeding size is 18 inches and 500 grams.
It's hard to explain the whole process so you should find a good breeding sheet on the internet someplace.
HEAT AND LIGHTING
In all enclosures, you need a basking spot and a cool area. the basking spot should be between 105-110 degrees. In the
cool area, it should be about 80-85 degrees. And make sure you have a UVB bulb in the enclosure. This stimulates natural
sunlight, which is needed for all beardies
CONCLUSION
In this care manual, I have just touched the basics. If you need any in-depth info, check out the web. But other than
that, I hope this guide is to your needs.
